Charlie is somewhat of a picky eater. He loves to eat, as long as he can eat what he wants (mainly peanut butter and jelly, fruit, yogurt, cheese and waffles). Because meal time is often a battle with Ruby, we have chosen not to fight the food battle with Charlie. Usually we are just excited to get both kids fed so that we can sit down for a quick 15 minutes and eat ourselves.
Lately though, I have gotten very sick of having to make three different meals (one for Ruby, one for Charlie and one for us). So, last night we decided Charlie was going to eat what we were eating. I made stromboli and even though he likes pizza, he did NOT want to eat the stromboli. We put our foot (feet? :) down and fought him on this. He could either sit in his chair and eat his supper, or sit in a time out chair in Ruby's room. He went back and forth between time out and his booster chair, but, after an hour of time outs and tears, Charlie ate his stromboli!!
We will keep fighting this and hopefully soon he will realize he has to eat what we are eating.
Score one for the parents :)

Way to go Kellie!! We often have the food battle with Wyatt and Olivia. They have gone to bed a few times without eating(stubborn suckers) but they know they get nothing else till they eat what is fixed for them. They for sure won't starve missing one meal.

Score one for the momma!
....ahhh, yet another joy of parenting! Stick to your guns..even when it takes energy..you will not be sorry.
The food battle is one we do not fight! Mama is no short-order cook. A wise doctor once told us that a (neurotypical) child will absolutely NOT starve themselves to death. We serve one meal and that is it. Stick to your guns - you will be glad you did.
Good for you! :) It'll get easier the longer you stick to your guns. The other thing we do is if they seriously SERIOUSLY don't like it, they still have to take 3 BIG bites and then the only option is PBandJ every time. They are both great eaters now. Someone said it can take up to 20 times of trying something before you learn to like it. I believe it!
