Choosing Joy

I have several blog posts swirling around in my head, but I feel like I haven't had the time to sit down and type them out. Ruby has been on summer break from school for the last week so having her home full time with Charlie and Tabby makes me plenty busy. I hope once the routine of school starts up again I will be able to get back at my blog. It really is therapeutic for me to write down my thoughts and connect with other families in similar situations so I miss it when I can't find the time.

Anyways, until then, a blogging friend sent me this article that I wanted to share. This family's story inspires me and reminds me how our lives are full of unexpected twists and turns. Thankfully, we have a heavenly Father who walks with us every step of the way and gives us the feet to walk the path He has laid out for us.

I will never fully understand why He allows Ruby to be the way she is, but I have decided to trust Him. All I can do is control my attitude about our situation....so I choose joy. This doesn't always come easy; this family's story was a great reminder. Check it out here.

Seven years ago I told my 8th grade class that my favorite quote was, "Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% what you make of it." Back then I had no idea how true or how hard this would be.

Psalm 25:4- Show my your ways O Lord, teach my Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior and my hope is in You all day long.

Thanks Kelli. This is a great reminder for all of us. I, too, grieve aften about the way things are and then a good friend reminds me that this is why we have a Savior and a heavenly Father in whom we put our trust. Not always easy, but it does bring peace.
Love you, Mom

That is my favorite quote too. When you have kids with special needs, or things that happen to you that you can't explain, I always go back to that one.

Thanks so much for leaving your comment on our blog! I am sure if we sat together for a bit, we could probably find a friend or friend-of-a-friend in common. I was born in GR and attended Calvin College, so I have some dear friends in Michigan.

May God give you the strength to choose joy - each day as you place those feet on the floor. I also prefer the verse from Lamentations 3:19-23 which speaks of how our sorrows will not consume us. God's mercy, His strength, is new every morning - His faithfulness is ever present. Hope tells us we can dance even when our feet feel heavy.

Peace to you. I will follow your blog.

Amen to this Article. I have walked in your shoes and am 20 years further along the journey. Your faith will not fail you and your blessings (as you are finding out) are so much more amazing than you ever dreamed they could be with a child like Ruby. Your whole family is so blessed to have Ruby in your lives. She will be easy to pay attention to because of her unconditional love and God will always provide what you need so that you can be an awesome parent to all of your children. Charlie and Tabatha will grow up loving and accepting Ruby as you and Mark do - providing the example for them to follow. I can't wait to meet all of you sometime.
