Peace

We have decided to move forward with getting Ruby a feeding tube. We asked her doctor to make the referral to the surgeon and I am waiting to hear about an appointment; hopefully we will be able to meet with him in the next couple of weeks.  It has been a tough decision to make. It may seem like we made it quickly, but actually we have been discussing it since the middle of December, even though I just blogged about it Friday.  We will see what the surgeon has to say, but so far I feel a peace about starting this process. Thanks for all of your encouragement, advice and prayers! It is such a blessing to be supported by a community of believers like you!

Timely post. Doing the same thing over here. Just decided to do the same. Felt like failure after working so hard on oral feeds. Abe gets sick, won't tolerate oral meds and then gets dehydrated quickly. Our dr has been great and explains this will only help him get better and stronger. Can push feeds at night, getting him the extra calories and continue to work on oral feeds! Hard stuff. Shed many tears over it but think it is the right thing to do. He lost SO much weight this last illness.
Keep me posted!

Kelli-I'm so glad that you've come to a decision and that the title of this post is "peace." Praying for continued peace as the process begins. Thanks for the update. You guys are such amazing parents.

Kelli, you don't know me personally, but I attended high school with Mark. I am physically disabled, and nearly 8 years ago (March 1) I received a feeding tube. It was the best decision, my only decision because being 32 pounds at 23 years was not appropriate. After my tube, I no longer have to allow for 2 hours each meal, take nasty medicine, or worry about choking. There are some challenges, but if you have any questions please contact me!
