MN Vacation

A couple weeks ago we packed up the van and headed to Worthington, Minnesota to spend several days with Mark's family.  I was a little nervous traveling with this bunch, but they did really well in the car.  Thank goodness for DVDs!

A lunch stop at Culver's

Mark's parents live on a lake which is a HUGE hit with the kids.
They loved riding on the boat and tubing.

We hit several parks while we were there.

Story time with Grandma

Several of the parks in Worthington had special needs swings for Ruby. It was great being able to let her enjoy the park too! She loves to swing; we need to get this swing for our backyard someday.

I think Charlie was having a good time, despite the look on his face :)
He did get stung by a wasp at this park.

Tabatha's birthday is on July 15 so she got to open her present from Grandpa and Grandma.
She got a set of wooden blocks! She has crashed many towers already :)

Tabatha tried the tube out; I think she was scared, but too tough to admit it :)

Visiting the fire station was a highlight for Charlie. Lyle (Mark's Dad) graciously called the fire chief and had him open the station just for Charlie. He was so excited.
Here he is trying to be patient while he waits to go check out the trucks.
 Climbing in the ladder truck

Charlie got to try on the gear

Charlie and Tabatha got fire station hats, t-shirts and coloring packs to take home.
Charlie will talk about this for a long time!

Hanging out by the dock

A break from the drive on the way home. It ended with a surprise down pour.

We had a great time in MN; we always love spending time with family.
Charlie asks me everyday if we can go back.  Dad and Mom--Thanks for putting up with the chaos we bring! It was a blessing to see you again!

Looks like a blast! Kelli - if it's not too much trouble, could we talk about your van? I've got some serious handi-van envy here!! Do you have both middle row seats out or just in Ruby's spot? Is that a power ramp? Is that a converted van or manufactured? We need to get going on it, but we need to seat 4 kids PLUS Marissa's w/c and 2 adults and I really do NOT want to go with a full-size van.

Shannon--
There are only seats in the back; Ruby is in the middle row by herself. When we searched we didn't find any mini-vans that had seating next to the wheelchair inthe middle. The wheelchair needs a certain amount of space to get into the car so I don't think there is room to keep a seat there. I am sorry to say you might have to go with a full size van! I do know of a family that uses a Sprinter that has been converted...maybe that appeals more to you? Not exactly the vehicle I want to drive around, but the wheelchair van makes getting Ruby around with us sooo much easier.

Good luck on your search!

I am glad you got away - and it was a holiday! I hope that family and friends see your post about the swing. We love our swings, and I can't imagine our girls being able to enjoy the outdoors without them. I sure hope someone sees the photo and blesses you with one! :)

And I am laughing because you and I posted on your blog at the same time - and I think you were referring to me with the Sprinter. :) spot
