Diapers

Diapers. Ugh.

No parent likes diapers, but they are a necessary part of parenting.  I planned on putting up with diapers for 2 or 3 years (per child :) and then moving on to underwear.  Unfortunately with Ruby, this will probably never be the case.

Ruby has grown out of the biggest diapers I can find in stores.  I need to go online and find some "special needs diapers"; I have been putting this off for months now. I keep making her squeeze into size 6 diapers from Target, even though she has leaked through them several times.  As long as she is in diapers I can get at the store, it feels normal. Having to order diapers from a specialized website seems so "special needs"and much more expensive.

Today I am having a special needs mommy moment, maybe several of them.  Sometimes, this stinks.

Tomorrow I will feel better; I will order the diapers and we will move on with life. God's peace will continue to reign.

By the way-- if any of you reading this are in the same situation and can give me advice on what diapers to order I would appreciate it!

I inquired on your behalf with a family who is on a similar journey.

Pampers makes a Size 7 (Amazon sells them) and Huggies Drynites have larger sizes.

Best wishes.

Carrie (who met your daughter in Ethiopia and carries her in her heart)

That sucks. Good luck.

Kellie - Beyond age 4, insurance should cover diapers for Ruby and they should come mail-order from your Home Health provider. Check with your pediatrician. We're almost there, too.....((((Hugs))))

Shannon-- Our insurance does not cover diapers, neither does our special secondary insurance for Ruby. We would only have them covered if we had straight medicaid for her. Frustrating, because even with Pampers size 7, the cheapest I can find is around $.50 a diaper....for the rest of her life! Yikes!

You can try the goodnights by pampers. They look like pull ups but for older children that still wet the bed. I don't know if those would work in your case. They slip on and you can tear off the sides so you don't have to try and pull off dirty and wet underwear. Could you try the cloth diapers. then you would have to wash them or use a diaper service. I don't know how much mooney that would save you. I am just typing out loud. I know there is an answer out there for you and your family. You'er not the only one in the world facing this challenge. Continue to pray and seek The Lord and He will either send someone or you will find someone that has the answer. Be blessed and if I ever come across anything that may help you I will pass the information on to you. Robin

I was looking on the web for you. I came across a site that may help you. It was another parent that has a special needs child in diapers also. She said you should be receiving her medical needed diapers free. It is worth looking into. http://voices.yahoo.com/have-special-needs-child-products-like-diapers-549333.html I will keep looking for more info.

Thanks Robin, but I did contact our insurance company and there is no coverage for us for diapers. Frustrating.

Hi Kelli,
does she have Children's Special Health Care? They used to cover them with a doctor's prescription. I helped one of my clients get them for her daughter. They covered diapers, wipes and disposable waterproof bed pads. I think that CSHCS now makes you choose a health plan though? Maybe that is where the change came in.

I have straight medicaid for my 18 year old son and they do not cover diapers. He has been in them all his life. We buy diapers called All Through the Night. http://www.northshorecare.com/atn1.html They hold up to like 32 ounces of fluid so there is no leaking thru the night. So as you daughter gets older you might want to look into these for night. Northshore that carries these also carry all kinds and sized of diapers for all ages. We have tried many but the ATN are our favorite. We use two a day. One for day and one for night. (He gets his BM in the potty for me Praise God) Blessings.
