Stepping Away

It has been a long week. Tabatha had a fever all week long. She was more needy then usual, which meant I couldn't give Charlie the attention I usually give him which made him, in turn, also more needy. A viscous cycle.

There were several instances this week where I was on the verge of going crazy. I felt trapped in my living room holding a feverish baby and watching a lot of Curious George with Charlie.  Ruby was a trooper and Emily did a great job (as always) taking care of her.

Tonight, Mark and I went out for dinner with good friends and NO children. It is amazing how stepping away from your situation can change your perspective.  We were able to chat about our kids, relate to each other's parenting struggles and laugh a lot.  By the end of the night I was excited to head home and hug my kids again.  It is refreshing to be with friends who are honest and encouraging. It especially good to know my kids are similar to other kids their age; my struggles are not my own.

Thanks Deb and Eric for a great night!
