Respite

Thanks for the encouraging notes for my birthday! It was thoughtful of Mark to hack into my blog to post that.  I am not a big gift person, but words of affirmation always mean a lot to me. I appreciate you all!

Once in awhile respite for any mom (and dad for that matter) is necessary, especially for parents of kids with special needs. Last weekend I took a respite trip. Mark has earned some travel money through work and he graciously used it to send me and his Mom to Fort Myers for the weekend while he stayed home to take care of the kids.  I am a lucky girl, I know.

The trip was great. I read, slept in, caught up with my Mom in law, laid in the sun, ate good food, did a little shopping, slept some more....you get the idea :)  It was wonderful.

What is even better is that by the time the weekend came to a close, I was very ready to see my family again. Being away reminded me how much I love being a mom. Sometimes I am so worn out from it that I forget.  Every once in awhile, I need to get away to remind myself of what God has called me to at this time in my life.  This calling may include diapers, laundry, doctor's appointments, therapy, dinner prep, snotty noses..etc. But it also includes, cuddles, prayers before bed, giggles, wrestling matches, tickles, fort building, and sweet toddler conversations.

I feel honored and humbled that God has entrusted three beautiful children to me. I continue to pray for wisdom to parent them in a way that please Him.

Love you, Mom
