Pictures and a Ruby Update

I had some random pictures left from the last month so I thought I would do a picture post.

Here is Charlie "helping" Mark open his birthday present. His birthday was Sept. 26 and we gave him a shirt and a Twins hat which he wore to the Tigers vs Twins game that weekend.  Charlie also made him a card (well, he scribbled on a card--it was a cute thought anyway :)

This Oct. was the 3rd annual Bee Brave Fun Run/Walk. Mark is the announcer for this race which raises money for breast cancer research. One of his best friends helps organize the race so that is how Mark got involved. I have never actually been to the race because issues with the kids have always kept me at home. I heard people rave about how great of an announcer Mark is, so this year, I put the kids in the jogger and I walked the 5K.  I know, I know, it is lame that I walked it, but I did walk fast and there were hills, so it was still a workout :) Just the fact that I got out of the house with two happy kids by 8am on a Saturday morning was an accomplishment for me.  Mark did a fantastic job as the announcer and it was fun to finally get to be a part of it.  Mark's family was around so his brother Paul, ran in the race and his parents came to cheer us on and take care of Charlie when he got sick of being in the stroller.
I guess Ruby was still a little tired here.

The TenHaken Boys.....this is Max, Charlie and Alex; they are all cousins and they are within 5 months of each other in age. It was a lot of fun watching them interact and I think they will have great times at family gatherings in the future.
All seven TenHaken cousins; this is about the best picture I could get because none of them sit still for too long.
While Mark's family was here, we hired two babysitters for Sat. evening and all the adults went out for dinner. I think we should make this a tradition because we had a great time eating and talking without children.  Here are Michael and Jessica-- Mark's brother who lives in Grand Rapids.
Dad and Mom TenHaken from MN
Mark's Grandma Douma from IA (she is my Grandma now too :) Thanks for making the drive out to MI Grandma! It was so good to see you again!
Mark's brother Paul and his wife Jill from SD
 Us.
Charlie and the Grandmas; he got lots of grandparent attention this week!
Charlie with Grandpa and Grandma TenHaken. We love you guys!

This is my brother Kyle and my future sister in law, Annika!! They were engaged a few weeks ago and with all going on with Mark's family being here, I forgot to post about it! We are so thrilled for them and we LOVE Annika; I couldn't ask for a better sister in law. Even though she will be joining him in Nashville, they both have family in Holland, so hopefully we will get to see them often.  Congrats you guys!

A quick Ruby update---- On the Zonegran (the new med we are trying) the seizures seem to have calmed down some. She was having about 25-30 seizures a day and the last several days she has only had around 20; not a huge decrease, but a decrease! We will take it :)  The neuro decided to try to increase this med one more time so we did that tonight and are hoping to continue to see the seizures go down.  We have an appointment set up with the dietician on Nov. 15 to discuss options for the trying the ketogenic diet again.  Overall, we have a peace about where we are at.  She has been fairly happy and content and that helps a lot! We will see what this next med increase does.

Today I am thankful for my fabulous babysitter. She really is more than that, she cleans and does therapy too. Because of her I ran to Meijer and Target today and I made soup.  It is nice to do normal things without my kiddos in tow.  We love you Emily!
