Wheels For Ruby

Today Ruby was fitted for a wheelchair.  The fuchsia frame (yes- we chose a hot pink frame :) will be ordered early next week, but it could take 6 months to come in because it has to go through insurance first.  Then, when the frame comes in, we will take Ruby back to Mary Free Bed for two more appointments where they will custom make the seat and head support for her.  So, hopefully we will have the chair when Ruby turns three in May.  The goal is for her to be able to have it in time to go to school at the Ottawa Area Center next summer.

I have dreaded this appointment for a long time; I thought ordering a wheelchair made her special needs so real, so final.... Yet, today, I had a lot of peace about the chair. It is the logical next step for Ruby and it will be easier to take her places if she has a comfortable place to sit.  I am tired of bringing her places and making her lay on the floor; in a chair she could be so much more involved in what we are doing.  It does bring up some issues about vans, ramps, carpet in our house..etc, but we will worry about those things as they come.

Today I am thankful for equipment that will make taking care of Ruby a little easier.  I am also thankful that right now God has given us sense of peace about the future. I continue to trust He will give us exactly what we need each step of the way.

Kelli, I bet the wheelchair will make such an improvement in Ruby's everyday life... and yours too. I can certainly understand the struggle though.. ((HUGS))

Love you guys! Glad there's peace about this; and love that fushia is the color; how perfect!
