Ruby's feeding tube got clogged around 6pm last night. The nurses tried several different things to get through the clog with no avail. They even tried shooting warm pepsi through it, but it wouldn't budge. (It is a little disturbing to thing that stuff I drink is used to eat away at junk stuck in feeding tubes....)
Eventually at midnight, I gave Ruby her meds orally and I also gave her some thickened milk through a sippy cup because she hasn't really eaten anything since Thursday night. She crashed at around 12:45am and slept pretty well until 6 this morning when the surgeon came in. The surgeon worked on the tube and shot enough pressure through to unclog it. We were able to feed her 30mls of pediasure at 6:30. She grinned after the liquids went it; I am sure it felt good to have food in her stomach.
I am so thankful that the tube is working again, but it is frustrating that we have lost a lot of time sitting around while the tube was clogged. We have to increase her feeds by 30 mls every 3 hours and the doctors want her to be able to tolerate 170mls at one feeding before she can go home. If you do the math that means we might have to stay another night...yuck! I am ready to be together with all my kids again.
We are thanking God for great doctors and nurses. We are blessed to be able to be at such a beautiful hospital with amazing care for Ruby. I am thankful Ruby's pain seems under control and that she slept for a handful of hours last night. I am very thankful that I have a wonderful family to take care of my other kids and support us in times like this. Join us in thanking our God for all of these things and praying that we get to go home today, not tomorrow.
