Disheartened

Ruby had a rough day again; today she had the longest seizure yet, even though the doctor increased her meds Monday night. This is very disheartening; the longer the seizures go on, the more damage may be done to her brain. We added another pill to the mix tonight and the doc is ordering yet another med from Canada to start in a few days. He was pretty concerned to hear that her seizures were not getting any better. Ruby is very sleepy from the medicine; when she is awake she is fussy because the pills make her stomach hurt. I love Ruby from the bottom of my heart but it is hard for me to really enjoy her right now because she isn't awake much and when she is awake she isn't very content. I don't really know her personality yet because so much of what we have experienced has been while she was sick. We are very frustrated and having a hard time swallowing the fact that this might be reality for us for awhile. We are desperately hoping that these next meds work very soon. If they don't work, our next step would be steroid shots that can have nasty side effects. Please pray!

I am so sorry, I can't even begin to imagine how hard this must be for you. I will continue to pray that Ruby will respond to the new medication and that you are Mark are able to get some rest.

My heart is heavy after talking to Sharon tonight and now reading your blog. Ruby is God's precious little one - born so far away and yet now in your arms to love and care for and protect as best you can. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you, but so many prayers are with both of you and with little Ruby. I love the last picture you have posted of her on your blog. She is so beautiful. God, protect her as you hold her, Mark and Kelli in the palm of your hand.

My wife Gina (http://hale.adoptblogs.org) has been following your blog for some time now and I started reading this morning. Definitely sorry to hear about Ruby, the ongoing seizures, and the change in meds. Just wanted to say hang in there, especially while you're in the time when the meds are making her sleep so much. We fostered a baby a few years ago who had been abused with a bad head injury. She was on medication with similar drowsy effects and while it was difficult to have her sleep so much, it was great to allow her to heal and the end of it, with her coming out of the medications was great and exciting to see her open up as the medications were slowly and eventually backed away. We'll be praying that the next round of medications will help her heal the way needed. Looking forward to hearing how those prayers will be answered.

You guys and Ruby are in our prayers. God knew that Ruby was going to need a special home with loving parents that would do anything to help her. I don't think that He could have chosen a better home and parents to place her with!

I'm so sorry to hear about Ruby. Your family has been in my thoughts and prayers. I've been debating back and forth, and have finally decided to share the blog of another adoptive mom I know who's child had infantile spasms.

I'm sure if you left her a comment, she could email you. Please be forewarned: her child had a severe form of infantile spasms. But I thought she might be able to help, having been through it already.

God bless,

Kelli, I don't know what to say. It must be so hard to love her so much and watch her go through this. I am sorry. I will be praying for a quick turn-around.
