MRI

Ruby's MRI went well this morning. We were worried she would have a hard time with it because she couldn't have any formula after 2:15am and the MRI wasn't until 9:45. Because of the seizure meds she is on, she was so tired that being hungry didn't seem to bother her. The doctor sedated her orally and she fell right asleep. As she was waking up they drew blood so we wouldn't have to go back to a lab and have her poked again. Last week they couldn't find a vein so this week they used an artery to draw blood which worked much better. We won't get results from the MRI until next week, but we are thankful it is over for now. It is almost 5pm on Friday and Ruby has been sleeping basically since 10:00am. She did wake up for 20 minutes to drink 2 ounces of formula, but else she has been out; all this medicine is really knocking her out.

We started Ruby on a 3rd medicine last night and we are really hoping to see results from this. This med can only be purchased in Canada and we weren't going to be able to get it until next week because they had to ship it to us. It was important to us that Ruby start this med ASAP so we didn't have to go all weekend without it. We considered driving to Ontario, but thankfully, someone from Mark's work was in Detroit and just hopped across the border for us to pick up the medicine. That was a huge blessing!

Next Wednesday we meet with the neurologist again after Ruby's 2nd EEG. At this appointment the doctor will be able to show us the MRI, and discuss Ruby's EEG and current meds. Hopefully by then he sees a huge improvement in the brainwaves on her EEG.

Thanks again for all of your prayers. We are hoping for a great, seizure free weekend! We will keep you posted.

You don't know me - I am a friend of Shadley's and have started reading your blog. We lived in your area from 2003-05 (your Dutch name made me curious which is why I started reading the blog :). Just wanted you to know that I've been praying for your little girl and for all of you. What an amazing family story you have to tell. I was thinking about how if your baby was still in Ethiopia, all her health concerns could be falling through the cracks. Praise God for providing parents who can watch over her so closely!!

We continue to pray for all of you. Hope the medications work their magic, with minimal side effects.

And if you ever need someone to jump across the border again, we would be honored to help!

I have been following along with your story. Please know that our thoughts go out to your family as you try to make some sense of all that is happening medically.

We are praying for you and Ruby during this difficult time- I can not imagine bringing your child home and having to go through all this- I don't think anyone could prepare for these things to happen no matter how much training and learning you did about international adoption. You are blessed with an amazing little girl and she is blessed by you.

Awesome blessing and amazing how God works things out like having the work associate right there and able to help!

Hang in there, guys! God works in mysterious ways, and it's so hard to see his plan through all of this. You have already done wonders for Ruby!
As rocky as it may seem, it's an incredible journey. I know your family will make it through--just one day at a time.
Your family is in our prayers...looking forward to your next update.

We carry your burden in our hearts at times and at other times, we lay it before God. I totally trust that God's faithfulness will be shown through all of this in your lives and in little precious Ruby's. Hugs
