A Weekend with the Family

It is always good to take time away from normal activities to relax and hang out with family. Holiday weekends are perfect for that. My grandparents were here from South Dakota and my brother was here from Nashville, so we spent a lot of quality time with my family this weekend. Saturday night we all went out to eat and then hung out at my parent's house. My niece was the center of attention because she was so excited about a new walking toy she got from her great Grandparents. There is something precious about the way an 11 month old baby laughs. :)

Sunday we had dinner at my parent's house and then we all wrote down guesses about the new babies that will be added to our family (our baby from Ethiopia and my sister Kari's baby- she is expecting, due in May). For Kari and Kyle's baby we guessed birthdate, gender, height and weight. For our baby we guessed the "gotcha day" (the day we will meet her), age, weight and height. Whoever scores the most points for their guesses wins a bag of their favorite candy. These are high stakes! :) It was fun to have the family be excited about both new babies.

On a sadder note-Mark's grandma did pass away this week and her funeral was on Saturday. We decided not to make the trip to IA because we had just been there two weeks ago and we are coming again for Christmas. She lived a full life and it was time for her to be with Jesus in heaven. We are blessed to have a believing family that can celebrate this truth.

On the adoption front- I haven't heard if our papers are moving through the Ethiopian Embassy in DC. I am sure with the holiday weekend they are taking a little longer. Hopefully this week we will hear they are on their way to Ethiopia. Also, a leader in international adoption from Bethany was supposed to have just gotten back from Ethiopia recently. We are hoping to hear more about how his trip went.

Another God thing-On Friday night we hung out with a couple who go to the same church as us, work at the same school as me, live in the same neighborhood as us and are adopting from Ethiopia! We had such a great time laughing and sharing stories. It is neat to see how God works and it is so neat that He allowed us to share this journey. I am excited that our kids will grow up knowing each other and being able to relate.

We are thanking God for all of you this week! Keep praying that our paperwork moves fast and smoothly and pray for patience (more for me than Mark :). Have a fantastic Sunday!
